International academic journey • Economics to Data Science • Three continents
I am a Senior Lecturer in Computer Science at Bournemouth University with an interdisciplinary academic background spanning economics, development policy, and computational data science. My work bridges rigorous quantitative methods with industry-relevant applications in machine learning, FinTech, and AI-driven decision systems.
International Academic Trajectory: My academic training spans three continents and reflects a progression from foundational economic theory to cutting-edge computational methods. I earned a BSc in Economics from Ahmadu Bello University, Nigeria, followed by an MSc in Economics from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria—one of Africa's leading institutions. Seeking expertise in policy design and institutional development, I completed an MSc in Development Policy at the KDI School of Public Policy and Management in South Korea, a globally recognised hub for development economics and governance research. I then pursued a PhD in Economics at Bournemouth University, UK, specialising in microdata modelling, behavioural analysis, and advanced econometric techniques.
This international training has equipped me with diverse methodological perspectives—from African economic development challenges, to Asian policy frameworks, to European computational research standards. I further enhanced my technical skill set through advanced training in Non-Linear Panel Data Modelling at the Barcelona Graduate School of Economics, Spain.
Transition to Data Science & AI: Throughout my career, I have taught extensively in mathematics, statistics, econometrics, and business analytics. This foundation naturally evolved into a full transition to data science and artificial intelligence, where I now conduct applied research in machine learning, deep learning architectures (including Transformer models), and AI for financial crime detection. I supervise PhD candidates working on real-world challenges in FinTech, digital health interventions, and maritime predictive analytics, often in collaboration with industry partners.
